residents enjoy a scenic rural atmosphere with a range of services
generally only found in large towns.

CULTURAL
There is a surprising variety of cultural activities available in close proximity to Fortuna such as live theatre, music, comedy and the arts. Churches to serve most denominations are available. The City has a library, newspaper, radio station and a cable television system. Fortuna has 40 clubs and community organizations and 8 senior citizen organizations.

PARKS & RECREATION PROGRAMS
 The Depot Museum is located in beautiful 55 acre Rohner Park which dates back to 1864 when it was deeded to Henry Rohner by President Abraham Lincoln. The museum was the former Northwestern Pacific Train Depot from 1893 to 1965. Facilities at Rohner Park include four Little League fields, a leisure-size softball diamond, rodeo grounds, roller skating rink, recreation hall, large play lot, a tot lot, hiking and equestrian trails, a basketball court, horseshoe courts, large and small group picnic areas and an art gallery. Newburg park, a 25 acre facility, has 4 soccer fields, 3 softball diamonds, 2 hardball fields, a playground and a picnic area. This park is lighted for evening activities and operates a concession stand. The City also offers a wide variety of activity classes, programs, and sports league for all ages and interests,

OTHER RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES
The Fortuna Rodeo, held annually in July in Rohner Park for over sixty nine years, is the highlight of the summer in Fortuna. Autorama, Art & Wine in the Park and the Apple Harvest Festival are other popular annual events. The area abounds with outdoor activities. Enjoy a morning game of golf, and an afternoon of boating and swimming. Angle for steelhead, salmon and trout and discover why the North Coast offers some of the finest fishing in the country. Enjoy the clean, uncrowded beaches or explore the unlimited hiking trails in the State parks or the Headwaters Reserve which is accessed from Fortuna.

CONFERENCE CENTER
The 12,000 square foot River Lodge Conference Center on Riverwalk Drive overlooks the scenic Eel River and has unlimited views of the surrounding timbered mountains. River Lodge is within walking distance to several hotels and restaurants. This beautiful center seats up to 600 and is designed to accommodate large or small events, including conferences, weddings, banquets and musical and theater productions.

CLIMATE
The Eel River Valley enjoys a moderate climate with winter and spring rains, as well as comfortably sunny days with summertime temperatures in Fortuna usually ranging 5 to 10 degrees warmer than the immediate coast. Sunny Fortuna has an average of 256 clear days annually. Rainfall averages 45 inches per year.
